1st GRADE CLASS (2008-2009)
Dear Parents of Academy First Graders:
We are thrilled to have the opportunity to share Thursdays with your child. In first grade we use a theme-based curriculum that will allow us to cover a variety of topics. We will be using an additional resource with our curriculum from Scholastic Books. They publish an excellent weekly magazine that coordinates with our topics. We ask that each child pay for the cost of this item.
Other Items
Allergies: Please let us know if your child is allergic to any food item. At times we will have snacks or treats for the children.
Show and Tell: We will have Show & Tell each Thursday. Show and Tell items must be kept in their backpacks until time for Show and Tell.
Scholastic Book Orders: Periodically we will send home a book order form. Make all checks payable to “Scholastic Books.” All orders and checks should be given to your child’s teacher. You are not obligated to order any books. This is just an offer that we make available to you.
Field Trips: First graders will take two field trips (one each semester). With all field trips, we need 5 to 6 volunteer drivers. All fieldtrips will be on Thursdays during class time.
Folders: Please check your child’s folders weekly. This is our main way of communicating with each other. One side will be labeled “take home: and the other side “send back” We will check your child’s folder each Thursday morning.
Activity Fee: We are asking each child to pay a yearly fee of $30. This will include all field trip, our end of t he year pizza party, your child’s scholastic booklet and all classroom supplies. We have found this works easier for the parent and the teacher. It eliminates trying to remember to send money and making sure each student has paid.
