THE IOWA TESTS
Usage and Expression
(3rd-8th Grade)

This subtest has two sections. In the first section, each item contains one sentence arranged in 3 lines. Students must identify the line of test containing a usage error, or they can select No Mistakes. In the second part of the test, students must choose the best or most appropriate way of expressing an idea that is given in a sentence or paragraph. Choices are around conciseness, clarity, appropriateness of expression, organization of sentence and paragraph elements.
