Home Educators Graduation Requirements

Home Ed aims to honor the freedom allowed by the Arkansas state law concerning homeschooling; therefore, starting with the class of 2024 Home Ed is offering two different graduation tracks

Traditional Track

Students are required to complete 22 High School Credits and follow the graduation guidelines from the Arkansas Department of Education.

*Home Ed does not require the Civics Exam or CPR

Students are required to complete the Home Ed “Transcript Checklist form” in order to participate in graduation. This form will be a means for Home Ed to check that all the proper credits will be earned by graduation.

Home Ed highly recommends the Traditional Track for any student that plans to pursue post-high school education and/or apply for college scholarships.

Flex Track

Students are required to complete 22 High School Credits. There are no specific types of credits required, but all 22 credits must be high school level credits.

Students are not required to complete the Home Ed “Transcript Checklist form” in order to participate in graduation. Parents will be asked to complete a form saying their student will earn a minimum of 22 High School credits by graduation.

The Flex Track is ideal for students that desire more flexibility and freedom in the types of high school classes they want to take.

Additional information regarding both tracks.

  • The track you choose will not be mentioned during the graduation ceremony, it will not be noted on the diploma, and it will not be noted in the graduation program. The track you choose is strictly identified for your personal high school course planning purposes and so Home Ed knows what students need to complete the “Transcript Checklist Form”

  • It is the parent’s responsibility to research their student’s post-high school plans to ensure the high school education they are providing will best suit their student’s post-high school goals.

  • Any student signed up for either track is eligible to apply for the Arkansas Honor Society. Arkansas Education Alliance inducts students into the Honor Society.; they require students to have a minimum 3.5 GPA and a high score on a standardized test (there are several tests that are accepted). Details about the Honor Society and an application can be found on the Arkansas Education Alliance website. Students that get inducted into the Honor Society will be identified on graduation with a notation in the program as well as cords they can choose to purchase and wear during graduation.

  • Home Ed will note additional Academic Distinctions in our graduation program. We will name National Merit Scholars and Arkansas Governor’s Distinguished Scholars. Details about these distinctions can be found on our website.

  • The official graduation date will be printed on your student’s diploma. If your student is considering being a 5th year Senior and taking concurrent credit classes after graduation you may need to delay graduation. Students cannot enroll as a concurrent student after their official graduation date.

  • If your student has significant learning challenges and is not able to complete the 22 high school credit requirement, email homeedonline@gmail.com. We would like to offer our assistance to help you make a graduation plan that works for your student. There is an option for you to get your student a Certificate of Completion instead of a Diploma to put inside the diploma holder which can be awarded on graduation day.

Joining Home Ed as a Junior or Senior?

  • The student/family must be current Home Ed members. ($35 membership dues)

  • In addition to Home Ed membership dues, there is a $125 fee per student that must be paid during the Junior Year to be eligible to attend Jr./Sr. prom & graduation. This one-time fee will not be collected again during the senior year. However, due to rising prices, an additional $25 might be collected during the senior year if it becomes necessary.

  • New students joining Home Ed for only their senior year must also pay the $125 per student fee by the October deadline specified by the class sponsor. Students wishing to graduate with Home Ed must join and pay by the October deadline. No new students can be accepted after the deadline. **An additional $25 might be collected if it becomes necessary.

  • The fee helps to cover costs associated with prom and graduation (facility costs, insurance, DJ’s, insurance, photographers, senior t-shirts, reception after graduation, senior display boards, etc….
