WHO WE PLAY

Little Rock Flames athletic teams compete with other statewide homeschool organizations along with some local private schools. Most varsity teams travel out of state for competition as well. We compete in state and national homeschool athletic tournaments in several sports, including volleyball and basketball.

PUBLIC SCHOOL COMPETITION

As of March 2015, the passage of Senate Bill 331 now allows for homeschool organizations throughout the state of Arkansas to compete against public schools throughout the state. Schools are not forced to play homeschool teams but have the option to participate with them as their schedules allow.

COACHES

Little Rock Flames athletic teams are usually coached by parents, but sometimes other adults with experience in specific sports will also act as coaches. Parents who are interested in coaching should contact the Athletic Director or another member of the Flames Board.

FACILITIES

Currently, we do not have our own facilities and rely on parents and coaches to help find locations available for practices and games.

ELIGIBILITY

1 - Must Be Correct Age

Teams are determined specifically by age, following the standard of rules set by the State and National Homeschool Tournaments.

  • 10U sports – cannot turn 11 before September 1 of the school year in which they

  • 12U sports - cannot turn 13 before September 1 of the school year in which they compete.

  • 14U sports - cannot turn 15 before September 1 of the school year in which they compete.

  • 16U sports - cannot turn 17 before September 1 of the school year in which they compete.

  • 18U sports - cannot turn 19 before September 1 of the school year in which they compete.

2 - Must Be A Registered Homeschooler

Participation on a Flames sports team requires that the student be a registered homeschooler. In order to be considered a homeschool student, a Letter of Intent to Homeschool must be filed with the school district, and parents should be prepared to produce their “intent” form if eligibility comes into question.  The student must be a full-time student, maintain a 2.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) during the active season, and they must meet eligibility requirements of the Arkansas State law.

The Flames participate in state and national homeschool athletic competitions and must be in compliance with state and national guidelines.

A copy of the Flames Registration form may be found in the Forms section.

3 - Must Sign the Code of Conduct

Parents and students must agree to abide by and sign the Code of Conduct agreement. The Flames Code of Conduct can be downloaded from the Forms section.

4 - Must Reside Within Pulaski County

Players on Pulaski County Flames teams need to reside in Pulaski County. However, in instances where the player’s county of residence does not have either a homeschool athletic team or another option for playing that particular sport, Board approval may be obtained for that player to join a Flames team.

If a player’s county of residence does have a team competing in that particular sport, Board approval of the counties of both Board of Directors must be obtained (Pulaski County Flames Board and the Athletic Board of the county of residence).

NEW SPORTS

Little Rock Flames leadership welcomes proposals from any parent or volunteer who would like to organize a new sport. Considerations include cost, feasibility, competition, and interest.

COSTS AND REGISTRATION

Fees are required to cover equipment, uniforms, facility rental, insurance fees, and referee costs.

The team determines the fee for each sport.

Fees are higher for secondary students who play more games and have a higher quality of uniform (All uniforms remain the property of Little Rock Flames.)

Specific costs will be announced prior to the first practice.
